A contributor develops an algorithm to harvest residential addresses using imagery in the OpenSamplifier project. There is no place where Streetsside imagery exists and corroborating data (Digital Globe Premium, Esri World Imagery, Mapbox Satellite, Bing Imagery) exist. The purpose of including Streetside imagery in OpenStreetMap (OSM) is to provide a third corroborating source of truth for validating, updating, and creating contributing edits to OSM. For the sake of non-commercial purposes, Microsoft considers iD/JOSM and other open source OSM editors to be software contributions. Maps that show street-level photos in iD are the same as those in free-to-drink maps. Bing Streetside was added to the iD editor in June of 2018. If you know the map is aligned with a specific location, use GPS tracks, other OSM data (if possible), or other aligned imagery. The age of the images is displayed at each zoom level by changing the zoom level. The imagery available for OSM editing is similar to that available for their free-as-beer map service. You can use Bing maps to trace your route by using the aerial imagery layer as a background. As a result, it is subject to copyright restrictions because it uses proprietary datasets, often licensed from third party geodata providers. The service has since been extended to include a wide range of features, including business listings, hotel reservations, and public transit directions.īing Maps is a cartographic platform operated by Microsoft’s Bing division.
